Harvestfields of Death

Manassas, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and beyond to the end of the war, the twentieth Indiana was one of the most honored Northern units. The uncommonly heroic officers and men formed one of the regiments of choice to lead into firestorms of bullets and shells from Cape Hatteras to Pennsylvania. Two of these everyday Hoosier heroes won the medal of honor, and when the largest Civil War monument in the world was built in Indianapolis, it was the flag of the twentieth that went into its cornerstone.
